About LIFE
LIFE Co-op is a renewable energy co-operative with its headquarters in Kitchener, ON. Established in 2006, the co-op is now over 440 members, and we are seeking more member-investors to join us as we seek out new opportunities for community-owned renewable energy. Membership is open to all residents of Ontario 16 years of age or older.
In partnership with local landowners and solar development companies, LIFE developed several solar PV projects throughout Southwestern Ontario, in the Counties of Wellington (4), Huron (2), Bruce (7), Dufferin (2), as well as the Region of Waterloo (3). Our Moorefield Wind Project (MW1) is also located in Wellington.
Many of these projects were part-owned for five years and then fully bought out by the landowners. LIFE still holds partial ownership in four PV projects, and 51% of MW1.
LIFE is part of a larger Province-wide network that is changing the energy landscape in Ontario. LIFE was a longstanding member of the Ontario Sustainable Energy Association and a founding member of the Federation of Community Power Co-ops (now a working group in the Ontario Co-operative Association), and delighted to acknowledge the support of Bullfrog Power.
Together with other local groups, LIFE has worked to educate the Waterloo Region community about energy issues and to help bring about the development of viable, clean alternatives.
